You’ve got it all, won the game
shiny little inner city apartment
no larger than your imagination
as wild as your dreams,
and your wild nights out
at the same bars with the same people
and the same overpriced craft beer bullshit
going out just for the thrill
that you might see a girl pissing accross the footpath.

Tricked into thinkin this is success, thinking alternative is a haircut
you made it well done good job
and keep climbing that social ladder
see where it takes you, the land of meaningless lattes,
and see that bum on the street
look down on him, judge
he’ll just spend that hat full of coins on drugs
keep drinking that botique beer son.

And keep an eye on anyone who strays from your path
the losers dropouts druggos
they’re not like you, they’re all messed up
Just stay normal.

This funny old world,

seems to have taken me

for a long walk down a strange path,

It’s nice here though

waking up

Looked out the window this morning
and realised how lucky I am
to see the sun every day
How have I been so ungrateful
to never have seen it before

Thinking Straight

Far away from all the shit
but in it just the same
Went down the road a sunny day
and came back in the rain
Seeing double thinking straight
guess it’s quite a shame
I dont know what to say
these rhyming words are strained
But its ok the world’s still here
and nothing else has changed
It’s just my mind flying off
on its own way
You’re still there on your own
drinking life away
I guess I’m useless sitting here
thinking of your pain

forgotten

The most beautiful poem just drfited thought my mind
half asleep, i dont quite remember what the words were
I wonder how many people
hear these poems they never write
maybe they’re too beautiful for the pen
maybe just too lucid
maybe it wasnt really there at all

You looked nice enough
sitting there, having a smoke
talking soft despite hard tattoos,
and I wasn’t that surprised
when you said you had been doing time,
that old story
nice guy, wrong crowd
and now you’re up on your feet
out on the street, looking for a job
just trying to turn things around,
and we didn’t seem that different
guess we just grew up different.

Hey, it’s been a while
how are you, how’s it going
I say with a smile,
but it comes out wrong
just like that old song
we sung once in a while;
that sunny afternoon
where did we go

separated by these walls
we missed each other’s calls

dark city

The gold rush is over now
you wear the writing on your face
under your skin;
inner city ramblings fade
as they beat the drum
beat you numb;
its always a restless farewell
