walking shell

overhead a crow cries

as he sits in the garden, softly

each breath like an ocean

surging gently

in, out,

thoughts rattle in his brain

cracking, like the guns from a nearby time

he watches them whistle by

they were someone he knew

long ago, and drifted apart;

flowers burst from the hedges

he see’s them,

a mockingbird gently sings

he hears it,

his heart quietly beats

drifter

he walks back through the yard,

clocks tick, hanging off walls of delusion

dripping through the hall, alone he is home

inside the cool air, reminds of a different place

not so far away, where dogs barking

slashes through the still night

cars parking, screeching, running from each other

alone in their shell; strangers from themselves

day gaze

whisper through the trees
like the voice
of a thousand leaves
scattered over the pages
of our lives
blowing from time to time
lifted by a brief breeze
then sit still and rot into the soil
sombre earth
returne to your mother, lover, child

where are we all
where are we going, what doing, anything?
chasing tails round and round
in the downward spiral of out place, time

from time to time
I hear a ringing in my ears
but nobody is calling
from time to time
I hear a ringing in our tears
but nobody is falling

circles

and turned the other cheek
when I saw you walk away
that day the other week
it seemed like yesterday;

you went away a far
and turned the other cheek
my heart was full of tar
that day the other week

and where did you go, when
you went away a far
why did you go, then
my heart was full of tar

in my head quiet banging
and where did you go, when
you left me hanging
why did you go, then

in my head quiet banging
that i didn’t know
you left me hanging
no place to go
